ABOUT Us

The Holloway's

Hey Y'all!

We are total accidental farm people! Farm life has found us, and we love every bit of it. At the
end of 2020, after a year that changed all of us, we decided to forego building our dream home.
Instead, we sold our house in the city, sold the property in the neighborhood we previously
planned to build and purchased 32+ acres outside the city limits. The land already had a home
built on it and a barn that needed remodeling. Over this past year, we have been working hard
on remodeling, learning how to raise livestock, and getting adjusted to slowing down and
enjoying the simpler things in life. We are right in the heart of sugarcane country, so our view is
cane fields, massive tractors, and cane harvesters.

We named our little slice of heaven Holloway Acres, and we are excited about sharing it with the
people we love. We also look forward to making new friends who come to stay in our guest
house.

Everyone in the family has a different role here at Holloway Acres.

Papa Seth: (our children call their father "Papa") Papa oversees the land. He loves his green tractor and has tons of fun playing around on the skid steer from time to time. He did not initially want so many farm animals but is now hooked! He loves them all. His day job sees him as Chief Operating Officer for autism centers located throughout South Louisiana. He is the numbers guy and loves excel spreadsheets. So, naturally, he is the numbers and budget guy for this new venture too. In addition, he is a gifted singer and plays the guitar, so if you hang out here any length of time, you will hear him belt out those notes.

Momma Vera: Well, that is me! I am the creative brain behind most of the projects at Holloway Acres. I push the limits and often ask Seth to take another risk! I am the dreamer and creator. I sketched out the barn remodel for our contractor to bring that vision to life. And boy did he! I can't wait for you to see it. I am also the decorator, cleaner, organizer, lover of gardening and landscaping, fancy cheese board maker, and chef. I take my "hostess with the most-est" skills seriously. I am responsible for social media and website design mainly because no one else in the family cares about it. A sucker for baby farm animals, I have no self-control when I walk into the local Tractor Supply and see baby ducks and chickens. During the day, I am a counselor and have a private practice. In February of 2022, I became a published author! My first book is titled, Your Second Chapter: Moving from Stuck to Peace, Purpose, and Productivity.  You can find out more about what I do professionally at www.veraholloway.com and my book can also be found on Amazon.

Jacques : Jacques is in 10th grade, and when he is not doing schoolwork (loves math like his Papa), playing travel ball (soccer & baseball & golf), or practicing one of those sports at his high school, he is found somewhere on the land. He is learning how to be a jack of all trades. The first month we lived on the farm, he told me that he is living his dream childhood. It was music to my ears. Jacques has loved the outdoors since he was a little boy. He loves hunting and has made sure our back acres are ready for this year's deer season. Jacques takes wonderful care of our animals and is growing a garden. He's selling cutting and selling wood in the fall and winter season and has plans for shucking corn in the springtime. Making fast friends with the sugarcane farmers next door, Jacques is learning about cane planting and harvesting. He amazes me with the knowledge he's gained about plants, trees, farming, livestock, and farm predators. He teaches me daily.

Juliette : Juliette is the heart of this place! She also goes by the nickname "Juju." She loves every single animal like they are her actual children. When any animal is hurt or sick - Juju comes to their rescue. There is no job she won't do. She begs to be homeschooled, so she can wake up on the farm and not have to leave! She helps with cleaning the barn and the coops, taking care of the baby animals, morning feedings, picking up eggs, and helping me with any creative project I'm doing at the moment. She is already learning how to be a great hostess too! Juliette is in 6th grade and loves sports. She also plays travel ball (softball and soccer), loves basketball, golf, and tumbling.

So, why this life?

We understand country living isn't for everyone. It's a lot of work with little downtime but is also rewarding and therapeutic. We felt it was time for our family to get away from the crazy pace and slow down. 2020 brought that out in us, and we learned a lot that year. Family is what is most important to us and raising our children to understand the beautiful gift of nature is something you just can't put a price tag on. It's teaching our kids valuable life lessons – like the responsibilities that come with ownership, the rewards of hard work, the self-discipline it takes to stay committed to a task, and the gifts found in slowing down and watching the sunset or gazing at the stars.
